Livescribe Pulse Smartpen: Cutting Edge Technology

“Give me one on my birthday!” That’s all I can say after seeing the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen from a friend. Envy swells within me. Imagine a pen that you can hire as your assistant. Clever, it is really clever.

What is a Livescribe Pulse Smartpen?
The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen is one of the most recent innovations in the high tech portfolio of Livescribe.  It is a smartpen in the sense that:

  • It can record everything that you write or draw.
  • It can record everything that you dictate because it has an audio capture device that captures the audio in the environment.
  • It has a sort of hard disk that acts as the reservoir of the audio that the pen has collected as well as all the words or drawings that the pen transcribed.
  • It has a speaker that repeats everything that it heard.
  • It has a USB port that allows transfer and storage of files from the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen to the computer.
  • All of the first four features that I mentioned above are packed in small pen that fits your pocket.

The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen can record, write and playback audio and words that were transcribed.  It can also store and transfer file

What’s in the package?
The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen comes with the Smartpen, a notebook, 3-D Recording Headset, USB mobile charging cradle, Livescribe Desktop software (for download, for PC and Mac), Smartpen case, 3 black fine point ink cartridges + 1 stylus cartridge, Demo card and interactive stickers and a Interactive Getting Started Guide.

What do I say?
The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen is two thumbs up for me.  It offers real value.

Now, I do not miss out on anything
I hate it when I listen to lectures and at times it does not capture some significant points that were mentioned by the speakers.  With the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen, I can have a full transcription of a lecture with no hassle at all.  It is also distracting if you have to write lectures and take notes in meetings.  Sometimes you can’t concentrate well on what the person is saying, because you want to capture everything sharp.  I also do not need to rewrite as the audio can be transferred easily in the computer.

Big memory
Before my only worry about the pen is the memory. The pen has a 2GB memory that can store considerably big files. However, you might need to unload the files immediately because the memory tends to be full when Livescribe Pulse Smartpen is capturing audio.

Handy and Non-intrusive
Since all the features of a Livescribe Pulse Smartpen are packed in a small pen, it is handy and can be easily brought everywhere you go. It also doesn’t catch much attention because of its size.

Tons of applications
The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen runs on a Java-based platform and more than 3,000 developers have already signed on to build new applications for it. Imagine all the applications that this Smartpen will have!

Life is easier and faster with Livescribe Pulse Smartpen. Because of the comfort that the pen brings, I can readily concentrate on more important things in my life.

The price may be a little high, but you really have to pay a stiff price for quality equipment.  Moreover, you need to continuously purchase a special paper all the time because the pen requires a special paper.  But in any case is affordable.

It needs to be comfortable, lightweight, work on any paper, work with windows xp,vista,200,7 etc..,record voice and lectures, transfer voice into text, transfer handwriting in to text all for editing ,hold at least 50 pages and 3 hours of talking Do you have any suggestions? Kael, those are the cheap ones, and may not do all the things that you mention. The Livescribe is the most expensive, but it’s because of all its features. Be aware that it’s not a normal size pen, so it will take some time to be comfortable with it, but you will get use to it soon enough!

I was looking at maybe buying a smartpen. Do you know of any that are able to record lectures, but are a little less expensive? All of the ones i’ve seen are around $150.
